Ernie,
I read through the NRC trip report. I agree with Tim's comments. The only other comments I have is in the list of attendees. Ed Blandford was present both days but must have been out of the room when the attendee list was passed around. Please add him (Name: Edward Blandford, Affiliation: UNM, Contact: edb@unm.edu<mailto:edb@unm.edu>).
On the second day (in the lab) but not on the first day, our students were additional attendees and should probably be listed (unless you think it would be better not to list them):
Name: Affiliation: Contact:
Kyle Hammond UNM (student) khammondnm@gmail.com<mailto:khammondnm@gmail.com>
Lana Mitchell UNM (student) lana.mitchell11@gmail.com<mailto:lana.mitchell11@gmail.com>
Cody Williams UNM (student) cdub72@unm.edu<mailto:cdub72@unm.edu>
Kody Garcia UNM (student) kodyagarcia@gmail.com<mailto:kodyagarcia@gmail.com>
I will start working on how we might address each bullet point.
Regards,
Kerry

Ernie,
I finished my review this afternoon (it took 1 hour to complete). Here are my comments:
· Enclosure 1, Page 3, second to last bullet: The two statements regarding the "flow rates" should be edited to say "velocities". "The CFD showed relatively low flow rates velocities past the coupons…The staff stated that STP should perform a comparison and if there are differences in the flow rates velocities that STP should evaluate…" This is an important distinction since we're clearly not going to have several thousand gpm in our test tank, but we could potentially achieve velocities that are roughly equivalent to the pool velocities.
· Enclosure 1, Page 4, first bullet: The NRC stated that the amount of fiber for the medium break test was based on the fiber associated with a small MBLOCA. This should be changed to "small LBLOCA". Also, the last sentence in this paragraph states that the fiber amount was based on the average mass of fiber produced by several 15 inch breaks. This should be changed to "…fiber amount based on the fiber associated with a 15 inch break". It might be good for Bruce to verify the break sizes that we told them since we were speaking off of memory during the meeting.
· Enclosure 1, Page 4, third bullet: I would suggest changing the statement that Tests T3 and T4 were "non-representative" to say that Tests T3 and T4 were "non-prototypical". Non-representative isn't really the right term since the tests were representative of something (i.e., the set of conditions that we were testing). They just weren't representative of the prototypical plant conditions.
Please feel free to edit my comments as appropriate before passing them on to the NRC.
Thanks,
Tim
